SUBWAY® restaurants are famous for their American sandwiches, prepared in front of the customer and according to their request, commonly called SUBs. SUBs are composed of fresh vegetables, meats and cold cuts, on freshly baked bread. The history of the SUBWAY® brand begins in 1965 in Bridgeport, Connecticut (USA). It was then that the enterprising seventeen-year-old Fred DeLuca opened "Pete's Super Submarines", a bar with submarine-like sandwiches, To raise money for college, he's helped by his friend Peter Buck. The restaurant quickly gained popularity, new locations opened, and the name was shortened to SUBWAY®. The following years were a string of successes, with a franchise system established, which allowed the chain to grow rapidly, and in 2010, it became the largest restaurant chain in the world by number of locations. The first SUBWAY® restaurant in Poland was opened in 2000 in Warsaw, near the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Currently, the chain has 121 points across the country.
